Standards

Editorial standards

The rules every Demand Memo article follows, from the first check to the last correction.

Sourcing and checking

Every fact in a Demand Memo article is checked against a source we can name before it goes out. When we can’t verify a claim, we say who made it instead of stating it as fact.

Each memo takes one question, lays out what is known with its sources, states our assumptions and ends with what we would do.

Dates and updates

Every article shows the date it was published. When an article changes after that, it also shows the date of the last change, and the feed and sitemap carry the same date.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we fix the article itself and add a note saying what changed.

Send corrections to hello@demandmemo.com with the page and what is wrong. A person reads every message, and we answer within two working days.

Bylines

Articles are signed by Demand Memo staff, not by an individual writer. The desk stands behind every article, and every question about one goes to the same address.

Ownership and disclosure

Demand Memo is published by Good Standing Media, which also holds stakes in some software companies in the fields its sites cover.

When an article discusses one of those companies, a one-line note at the top says so. Our publishing software adds that note, so a writer can’t leave it out.

How much we publish

About two articles a day is the most we publish on Demand Memo. Keeping the number low leaves time to check each piece.
